Vapiano is a German restaurant franchise company. The chain's restaurants offer Italian food combined with the fast-casual principle.
Vapiano app for Android and iPhone (iOS) combines mobile ordering and mobile payment, as well as a loyalty program for the user.
No more waiting in lines in front of the kitchen corner till the food is ready!
Process and my role
Ideation and problem solving

Discovery
Understanding the brief requirements from the main stakeholders .
Performing behavioral interviews with some users to understand the behavior and pain points, as well as mapping out their journey from the check-in to the restaurant to the mobile payment and checkout.

Ideation
Just a few apps in Germany connect mobile payment and mobile ordering in a restaurant chain. We ran a design sprint for a full week to investigate possibilities around the problem.

Create Low and high-fidelity Prototypes and animations.

Solution and learnings

Mobile Order and Payments
Check-in Experience
Match between system and the real world. By entering Vapiano, the users
just have to scan a QR code and they are checked in. The experience should be similar to the We focused more on additional details as to how the content displayed on the page and the different ways to access it.
Check-out Payment Experience
At the end of their visit, the users just scan the QR code again and can leave the restaurant. That’s all, as the app takes over the payment process with the payment method the user previously chose (credit card or PayPal).
Other Features
Connect to Social media channels. Save favorite dishes for easily find them the next time you visit the app. The app helps the User to find the nearest restaurant and tells you all details about it (opening hours, address, etc.).
